The Book of Joshua Chapter 18: Listen to New King James Version (NKJV) – Audio Bible

Introduction

The Book of Joshua is considered as one of the most significant books in the Bible as it documents the entrance of Israelites into the Promised Land. Joshua, the leader of Israelites, succeeded Moses and under his guidance, Israelites were able to establish a foothold in Canaan. Chapter 18 of the Book of Joshua is one of the most important chapters as it describes the division of land among the people of Israel.

The Division of Land

After the conquest of Jericho and Ai, the Children of Israel gathered at Shiloh and set up Tabernacle of Meeting. Joshua then advised them to possess the remaining land. As a result, three men from each tribe were selected to survey the land according to inheritance and divide it into seven parts. However, the Levites did not receive any part in the land as the priesthood of the Lord was their inheritance.

The Inheritance of Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh

It is worth mentioning that Gad, Reuben, and half the tribe of Manasseh had already received their inheritance beyond Jordan on the east. These tribes were given the land of Jazer, Gilead and the half-tribe of Manasseh occupied the land of Bashan.

The Inheritance of the Tribe of Benjamin

The lot of the tribe of Benjamin came up, and 12 cities and their villages were allocated to them. The cities were Jericho, Beth Hoglah, the Valley of Keziz, Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel, Avvim, Parah, Ophrah, Chephar Ammoni, Geba, and Kiriath Jearim.

The Southern Boundary

The southern boundary of Israel was extended from the edge of Jericho and ended at the salt sea at the south end of Jordan. The Jordan River served as the eastern border of Israelites.

Conclusion

The Book of Joshua Chapter 18 describes the division of land among the Children of Israel by Joshua.
